Sony Ericsson Updates Phone Lineup

Sony Ericsson today announced several new GSM phones, covering a full range from mainstream to advanced:
- S710a: Updated version of S700 high-end swivel-style model, adding GSM 850 and EDGE high-speed data. Key features include megapixel camera, large QVGA display, and memory card slot. Available Q4 in the Americas.
- P910: Updated version of P900 smartphone with Symbian-based UIQ OS. Upgrades include a new integrated QWERTY mini-keyboard, memory increased to 64 MB, and an improved display, supporting 262,000 colors. Available globally in Q3, including P910a variant with GSM 850 for the Americas.
- K500i: Bar-style tri-band model with TFT display, VGA camera with lens cover and video recording, Java 2.0 with 3D, 12 MB of memory, class 10 GPRS, and infrared. Available for Europe and Asia in the 3rd quarter.

Cathing Up to Nokia
I happen to think that the design (aesthetics) of sony-ericsson phones keeps improving with each new release while nokia phones designs keep getting stranger and less accessible.
Nokia for a long time was the only phone company that "got it." They designed attractive phones that lent themselves to personalization.
The rest of the industry has finally figured out that you need one or some very good industrial designers on your team. Phones are personal devices not grey boxes like PCs. Nokia can longer differentiate on this feature which leaves pricing and their subsequent reduction in prices.
I expect nokia's market share to stabilize at about 20% within the next couple of years.
