Apple Unveils iCloud for iPhone

During the keynote address at its WorldWide Developer's conference, Apple today provided details about what iPhone users can expect to see in its new iCloud service. iCloud is a completely re-written version of Apple's MobileMe concept and it works across all iOS devices. All content on a users' iOS device is backed up in iCloud, such as calendars, email, contacts, applications, and books. Changes made on one device are (eventually) reflected on al a user's iOS devices through automatic syncing. iOS devices will update automatically (via Wi-Fi) each day, including music, books, apps, photos, device settings, and application data. Apple calls the photo-syncing support Photo Stream. Photos will be automatically uploaded to iCloud and synced to a user's other iOS devices. They can also be reached from the AppleTV for sharing on TV sets. Apple will store the last 30 days' worth of photos online, the last 1,000 photos on the device itself, and all photos on a user's computer. iCloud also integrates with Apple's productivity software, such as Pages, Keynote, and Numbers. All will be automatically backed up in iCloud when changes are made. The idea is to make all of a user's documents available to them on any device no matter where they are. The biggest feature of iCloud is syncing with iTunes. Users will be able to purchase a song from Apple iTunes Store on one device and sync it across all iOS devices (multiple downloads for no charge). iCloud will have APIs for developers, as well, so they can take advantage of its benefits. Use of iCloud will be free for iOS devices.

Who Cares

Is Jobs for real...lets buy Lion OS X and make gestures the new thing...here gesture this "My middle finger"....stupid...now you have to go and buy there patented gesture pad. Looks just like the OS X platform for an iPhone...Notification bar on the top of the iPHone...geeee who would have thought...oooh ya HTC, Blackberry, LG....done that. iCloud who would have thought of that...oooohh wait....AMAZON did Google did....wirelessly sync you music photo's video's..who would have thought of that...ooohhh ya iSync...Double twist....old steve real old...thats it...sad they souldnt call it "Lion"...more like "Alley Cat"

are you for real?? why all the guff. I totaly understand that some other devices were already doing some of these things but who cares. android wouldnt even exist if it wasnt for the iPhone, so I dont see the problem. and just because google and amaz...

control?

So, in other words Apple is now going to take almost all of my iPad content and send it to my iPhone and iPod. What happens when there is more memory space on one device than another? Are they going to allow me to determine how much of certain types of content goes to each device? Or do I have to run out and purchase a larger capacity iPod Touch or iPad just because my iPhone is 32GB and the other devices are only 16GB?

I'm sure they will have an option that allows you to select which media gets put into the Cloud.

My guess is it will work similar to iTunes and syncing devices to that. I have way more than 16gigs of media in iTunes on my computer, but I only ha...

It pushes up to 1,000 photos in the cloud folder. So that is at least one limit I am aware of.
