Google Adds 'Connection Bar' to Safari-Based iPhone App

Google has added a new feature to its Safari-based version of Gmail for the iPhone. The new Connection Bar is a tool that appears at the bottom of users' inboxes when it is actively connecting to the network in search of new emails, when it is pulling them down, or when it is sending emails from the device to the internet. Google says it is meant to help users know when their iPhone is sending/receiving email. The bar disappears when the app isn't accessing the network at all. It only works with devices running iOS 4.0 and up.

Mailbox today got rid of the reservation system it had in place to control the number of people who downloaded its email application. There is no longer a wait list for the app, which is free and can be downloaded immediately by anyone who wants to try it.
