Opera Launches Mobile App Store within Its Browsers

Opera Software today launched the Opera Mobile Store, which is available from its Opera Mini and Opera Mobile browsers in over 200 countries. The storefront, which is run by Appia, offers both free and paid applications to a number of device platforms, including the Java, Symbian, BlackBerry and Android operating systems. The store is able to detect device type and in which country the device is being used, and offers content with those parameters in mind. Users can pay for applications with a credit card or direct carrier billing (if supported). Applications are downloaded through the browser to the device's native file system. The Opera Mobile Store is accessible from a Speed Dial link that will automatically appear in Opera's browsers (no update necessary). Opera has also made the Opera Publishing Portal available to developers, which can be used to help them better target devices running Opera's browsers.
