Tiered Data Headed to Verizon this Summer

Speaking during an investor webcast, Verizon Wireless CFO Fran Shammo said that Verizon will implement tiered data pricing for iPhone and other smartphone customers by this summer. Verizon said it initially offered iPhone users unlimited data for $30/month because it didn't want to dissuade customers from buying the iPhone. Shammo said that Verizon is still evaluating data pricing models and will announce them at a later time.

Wtf are u serious

They didnt wanna dissuade buyers? Oh lemme guess they want to piss buyers off who now have to pay for tiered data. Those are the schemes verizon plans I just hate the company for. Oh lets just lock in X amount of customer on contract and then hit them with fees and charges for all new and maybe even existing customers! Wow verizon I hope you burn for this.

Tiered data is for loser! Enjoying my Sprint unlimited data all day long. 😎
troll 🙄

I'm actually considering Sprint. Vzn is way, way overrated!
...
Zip it, Pro. Verizon never makes anyone who has an existing plan/contract change it as long as they keep that device or contract. You are a troll. Go away and take all your Spring friends with you. 😎
...
Because you know, you're ENTITLED to unlimited data right?
...
This from the mofo who cheered when Sprint stuck $9.99 more inches of *Bleep* to ALL of its smartphone customers. At least those of us who already have unlimited data are grandfathered as well as those who get on board before Evil Red stops offering...

Haha!

No seriously though, this guy has some serious problems.

I may not be the guy everyone agrees with all the time, but wow...

If there are absolutely no people on the forum that agree with you, maybe it's time to take a step back and c...

Dearest Diamond,

I am glad to read about your un-dying love for Sprint. Honestly I don't think they knew you cared so much. However, your obsession is bordering on stalker, and while they are mildly flattered, they're also creeped out.
So this le...

Your ridiculous in your face approach makes people hate Sprint for invalid reasons. I have Sprint and you make me wish you were a customer of some other company.

Verizon Wireless - We Never Lube You First

man im so glad i ditched verizon when i did 🤣

but to be honest all the major carriers are doing this kind of crap in one way or another
Of course they are. The larger the carrier...the more arrogant they become because they have more subscribers. Make no mistake: the smaller carriers would LOVE to be like the larger ones and if they were they would pull the same garbage. Fortunatel...

150+?

Wow, we have 150 comments and counting on this topic, i must say there have been some really interesting point being made, and besides all the troll hunting, there has been some interesting discussions. I know they never would, but if Verizon could read these threads i think it would give them a good view of how the everyday consumer feels about their most recent move. Verizon, if you want to know how we feel, look no further 😉
Quite honestly, VZW doesn't really care about the people who are willing to comment on this forum. This is like 1%(or some ridiculously small percentage) of their customers and they're not going to risk their business model to satisfy this crowd. It...

Verizon (and every other carrier) fields 100,000 phone calls every day from "everyday consumers."

We are the exception, not the norm.

As such, the general perspectives offered on this forum are of very, very little value to the decision-makers i...

Freedom of Choice

Are any of us truly surprised by VZW's move to tiered data for iPhone and other smart phone users. Honestly, no.

It was accurately stated in this forum that as a rule of thumb smartphone users consume up to 10 times the data of a standard handset and until NOW smart phone users have been able to fly under the radar with unlimited plans intended for mid to lower capable units for minimal charges. Now with the recent and by recent I'm saying within the last 18 months smart phone boom. Devices are more data centric than ever before and more people have them as opposed to standard handsets and ALL THE CARRIERS are feeling the pressure to not only maintain their network but expand for future growth.

Its not that it cost significantly mor...

Anybody feel tricked?

And since no carrier dares make a decision without apple, apple knew this was the plan all along. Sh*tty if you ask me.
Verizon's gonna let them keep it; since, its grandfathered in.
...
They had a tier data plan. They took it away before the iphone launch. And now they are bringing it back. It does not make sense to me.

But now that you already got one..........

"Verizon said it initially offered iPhone users unlimited data for $30/month because it didn't want to dissuade customers from buying the iPhone"

But now that you already have one, we thought, hey why not make you pay more money 🤣
Yeah, but it's nothing new to the iPhone sheeple. They'll continue to shell out their cash and go along their merry little way.

baaaahahahahaaahahahahahah 🤣
...
If you already have an unlimited plan, you're grandfathered in.
are they gonna honor all gradfathered plans or are they gonna make you choose one of the tiered data plans?
...
No. Just as AT&T's data customers with unlimited plans are grandfathered so will VZW's. I don't understand why people insist on twisting things.
no comment 😎

who coulda seen this coming?

of course they offered unlimited to begin with, they wanted to get as many att customers as possible who couldn't live without unlimited. i can't believe how dumb most consumers are.
AT&T defectors still have time. It doesn't go into effect til the summer.

What industry do you work in?

I find it pretty easy to believe how dumb consumers are.

Here's hoping

I just hope they bring in a $15 or $20 low-end plan that's actually sufficient for a low end user like myself.

If they would match the 250 MB for $15 I could score on AT&T, I'd be all over that.

I don't mind tiered pricing, as long as the bottom tier is in the 250 to 300 range.
And here's a question you gotta ask yourself. Why did Verizon do away with it in the first place?
