Sprint today announced an additional service included in its Total Equipment Protection plan that will allow users to remotely lock or wipe their lost Android or BlackBerry smartphone. In addition to remote lock/wipe, the service can be used to locate a lost or stolen phone via GPS (including real-time map tracking) or by sounding an alarm even when the device is set to silent mode. Sprint suggests that all customers use pass codes to lock their phones. Customers who subscribe to the $7-per-month Total Equipment Protection plan will need to download the latest version of the Total Equipment Protection application in order to use the service.
