Broadcom's Latest Chip Adds Bluetooth 4.0+HS

Broadcom today announced a new combination chip for smartphones that includes 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, an FM radio, and, for the first time, Bluetooth 4.0+HS into a single piece of silicon. The Bluetooth 4.0+HS standard has been available for some time, but Broadcom says this is the first chip to provide it. The chip also supports Bluetooth Low Energy, which is meant for small devices that have embedded sensors. The chip also supports Wi-Fi Direct. Broadcom says the combo chip's reduced size and power requirements make it ideal for devices such as smartphones.
