Chinese handset and telecom equipment maker ZTE today announced that it plans to launch a web-based application store that network operators can use to provide their customers with content. The store, named iMarket, is a white-label approach, and it will let network operators pick and choose the content they feel worth offering their customers under their own brand name. iMarket apps can be used online or off, and will support not only phones, but also PCs and tablets. As part of iMarket, ZTE is also offering network operators deployment help, consultation, and support. China Unicom is already using iMarket, and ZTE believes it is an ideal solution for smaller operators who may not have the capital to develop their own app and content stores.
