Sony to Debut 3G-Equipped Gaming Device, Gaming Portal

Sony today announced a new gaming device and a new gaming portal aimed at Google's Android platform. The new Next Generation Portable will be a hand-held gaming device with a five-inch OLED display, 3G, Wi-Fi and GPS, and it will be aimed at competing with Nintendo's portable gaming systems and the iPhone. At the same time, Sony also announced the PlayStation Suite for gaming. The Suite will exist as an online portal for Android users to purchase PlayStation games for their smartphones. The PlayStation Suite will only work on devices running Android 2.3 Gingerbread and up. Sony said that titles from its PSOne line will be made compatible with the PlayStation Suite and Android devices (including phones and tablets). According to Sony, the platform will be hardware neutral, meaning devices made by companies other than Sony and/or Sony Ericsson will be able to run the PlayStation titles. Sony will also introduce the relevant tool sets for developers to help them create games for — or port them to — the new PlayStation Suite. Exact availability of the gaming portal wasn't provided. Sony said the portable gaming device won't be ready until the end of the year.

This phone will fail. There has been zero buzz about this device. Does Sony suck at almost everything?

It doesn't sound like it's a phone at all... More like a PSP with 3g data built in. Sounds like a good idea to me. If I am missing some other info, forgive me, I don't have access to pretty much any sites other than PhoneScoop.
