LG Announces Optimus Black with NOVA Display

LG today at CES announced a slab-style, Android-powered handset, the Optimus Black. The Optimus Black uses what LG calls a NOVA display, which is the same in-plane switching LCD that Apple uses for the iPhone 4. The NOVA display on the Black measures four inches at 800 x 480 pixels with a brightness of 700nit (for comparison, the iPhone has 500nit brightness). The NOVA display also offers a 50 percent reduction in power needs while remaining bright enough for outdoor use. It has a 1GHz processor, 5 megapixel camera, and 2GB of internal storage. The Optimus Black measures 9.2mm at its thickest point, and tapers down to 6mm at the outer edges, and features a custom LG-designed user interface on top of Android 2.2. The device can be upgraded to Android 2.3 in the future. LG claims the Optimus Black carries several firsts, including the first Wi-Fi Direct certification, and the first user-facing 2 megapixel camera. The Optimus Black will be available worldwide in the first half of 2011.

Stop teasing us!!

This is getting ridiculous I want a new phone. I want to see a release date and carrier for every phone I see at the CES. Once they unveil the thunderbolt I'm going to have a nerdgasm but I just really want to know when I can walk into a store and buy one
