Sprint and AT&T Request a Spectrum Swap

Sprint and AT&T have filed a request with the FCC for a swap of spectrum licenses according to FCC documents. The move would give AT&T better coverage in a few major cities, including Dallas-Ft. Worth, Denver, New Orleans, San Francisco and other large metro areas. Sprint would see benefits in Tampa; New Orleans; Charlotte, North Carolina; and Cleveland, among a few other spots. The filing is light on specific details about what services and network capabilities will be enhanced in those areas, but both carriers claim that the transaction would help them to enhance their ability to expand commercial mobile wireless service. Any parties interested in petitioning for denial of the transaction must file by December 17, 2010, and the entire process should be filed and awaiting approval before the end of this year.

Charlotte, North Carolina

I noticed Charlotte was the only city that has the state it is in referenced in the post. The reason why I point this out is I read a Charlottean (sp.) complain about this one time and then soon after started noticing it in articles. It is funny because I have visited Charlotte and it is a large metro area and I don't know of a different Charlotte in another state that is anywhere near the size. I can't figure out why people do this.
I believe there is one in West Virginia and one in Florida.

Small towns, really, but hey, you wouldn't want one of THEIR residents getting confused.

Dallas Area?

Interesting! DFW is att's flagship market and hotbed for subscribers. I can't fathom how Sprint's spectrum here could benefit att?

Will
Maybe they need it because so many people in DFW have AT&T. Their network is probably close to full capacity.

The spectrum in this transaction does not cover Dallas. It covers BTA003 Abilene, TX and BTA418 Sherman-Denison, TX, both of which are contained w/in Sprint's MTA007 Dallas-Ft. Worth PCS B 30 MHz license. To give you an extent of the size of MTA007,...
