Verizon Pegs December for LTE Launch, Intros Droid 2 Global

In a televised advertisement, Verizon Wireless has announced that it will launch its Long Term Evolution network in December 2010. Verizon has yet to provide exact dates for the expected launch. Verizon says its 4G network is the country's most advanced. Verizon Wireless also officially launched the Motorola Droid 2 Global today. The Droid 2 Global offers most of the features of the Droid 2, but adds worldwide 3G roaming, and a 1.2GHz processor.

Early Adopters?

I am curious how many consumers will be rushing to purchase an LTE aircard.
Though I'm sure a few people will be sold on it because it says 4G/LTE, I doubt the masses will flock until they see concrete pricing.

The thought of tiered usage and tiered speed scares me.

All I have to say for right now is I am on standby. Waiting for the rate plans to be announced.

I'm pretty sure Verizon will stop selling 3G only aircards and only stock EVDO+LTE devices, so you won't have a choice much lo...

I might not be an early aircard adopter. but give me a decent handset or tablet.. and we're talking.

I fully expect my area to have LTE coverage by December 2011.

Power Vs Speed.

With the "4G" wars now taking shape, what would an individual desire in the ever growing segment of wireless broadband? speed or power?

Speed is definitely an important ingredient for accomplishing transaction goals. But what about handling the extreme demands of what will soon be introduced into the industry to take advantage of this new technology?

Sprint is in a position to add to the wars. I sense Sprint will implement that their "4G" is the "Most Powerful".

While no one may have true 4G as by definition, Sprint definitely has an upper hand in delivering an awesome experience and the spectrum to back the claim for being the most powerful.

While speed is important, I support having the power to back it as well.

Not sure why Sprint came up. I suppose it had to happen at some point. There really isn't a comparison at this point. No air-cards announced. No phones. So no need to argue.

"Power" is voltage multiplied by current. It has no real meaning in 4G, at least as far as Joe Consumer is concerned.

Technologically, low power is actually the desirable trait for a next generation network, but try telling a marketing guy ...
