MetroPCS Scoops Up Pocket Communication Assets

MetroPCS has acquired the spectrum and other wireless assets of Pocket Communications New England. Pocket NE's coverage includes portions of Connecticut and Massachusetts. Terms of the deal were not disclosed, though MetroPCS said that it will use Pocket NE's assets to add to its own coverage in the region, and will eventually deploy Long Term Evolution there via its AWS spectrum holdings. Pocket sent a letter to customers in September warning them that the company was insolvent and would cease operations on October 31, 2010.

Steps

Not a great spectrum grab but helps in the New England region where service is shoddy.
Now MetroPCS rolled out their by the minute plans which are highly competitive to all other pre-paid carriers.
To come as far as they have in such short a time should not be taken for granted.
Regardless of the bashing of MetroPCS due to its customer demographic, they offer one of the best alternatives to any of the big 4 post-paid carriers.
Oh and by the way, there is a resource on their website called a coverage map.
Take the time to research it before whining about the coverage.
It was placed there for a reason people. 🙄
