Clearwire Shopping Spectrum to Raise Funds
Oct 12, 2010, 9:14 PM by Eric M. Zeman
According to unnamed sources cited by Bloomberg, Clearwire is attempting to auction off some of its surplus spectrum in order to raise the funds necessary to continue operations. Sources with knowledge of the matter say that the auction has garnered interest from AT&T, Verizon Wireless, and Germany's Deutsche Telekom. Clearwire is seeking to raise at least $5 billion. None of the companies involved offered comment, though Clearwire had previously confirmed that it was in talks with Deustche Telekom's T-Mobile USA operations. It is not known what spectrum allocations Clearwire is looking to sell.

Well, so much for...
Nextel spent 1/2 a billion dollars on some narrow bands of 700 MHz spectrum back in September 2000. Maybe they could get some cash out of that holding from auction #33.
Too bad all they bought was B block spectrum. Verizon would give a tooth or two for those upper A-block bands!!!
Better luck next time, CLEAR.
