Verizon Wireless has announced that it will pay approximately 15 million of its customers a total of $90 million in refunds for erroneous data charges applied to their accounts. The refund, which the FCC had a hand in forcing upon Verizon, covers data charges that were incurred when users accidentally or otherwise unknowingly accessed data services. For example, users who accidentally launched the browser (and weren't subscribed to a data plan) were charged with per-megabyte data sessions. Verizon will pay the customers between $2 and $6 each.

For those of you who do not realize

the situation, let me explain this to you. While you are so gaily flaunting this demand from the FCC as 'what Verizon deserves,' you are condoning socialism in the United States of America. The FCC should have no right to interfere with businesses, no matter what level of greed is being dealt with.
I feel that I should explain my position as not a supporter of Verizon Wireless. Naturally, this should come as some sort of relief to me, because it is slightly effecting VZW's profit margin. Let me also explain, however, that I am more of a non-supporter of a controlling tyranny than any other business in the world.
It's quite frightening that the country that prides itself on giving freedom to its citizens contains consumers that condo...

I feel really bad about this post.

Yes. It sets an aura of fighting for the rights of business people and businesses operating on American soil. It also conveys the passion of needing to stand up for those rights through many outlets even if throug...

Common-Sense

The first thing a buyer of a web or data enabled phone should do is disable access by going into the data settings.
Carriers and phone manufacturers can do their part by making one touch access less accessible or putting data further into the menu system.
I can picture how many customers used it intentionally and whined saying they never meant to push the option or I never signed up for data plans so why should my phone allow me to access it. 🙄 🙄 🙄

FCC Response

“Consumer protection is at the core of the Commission’s public interest mission, and ensuring that consumers are treated fairly and reasonably is critically important to me. Given the magnitude of the problem that Verizon Wireless revealed yesterday, we must quickly get to the heart of what happened, when, and why. I applaud the Enforcement Bureau for acting swiftly to initiate an investigation into the widespread complaints that Verizon Wireless had engaged in significant overbilling for data services when the Bureau first learned of the phantom fees.

While I appreciate that Verizon Wireless has acknowledged its billing errors, the refunds to millions of Americans have been a long time coming. It appears the company was f...

90 Million to Verizon is nothing compared to their BILLIONS in Profit.

Nuff said..

They spend more in advertisement than this credit.. Besides making people use data was their purpose all along.
