AT&T and Sony Ericsson today announced the August 15 availability of the Xperia X10 Android handset. The X10 was first announced by Sony Ericsson in November 2009, and approved by the FCC for use on AT&T's network in December 2009. The X10 is powered by a 1GHz Snapdragon processor and features Sony Ericsson's Timescape and Mediascape apps. Timescape is a messaging application that lets users access all of their communications in one place and Mediascape is a media management application that lets users more easily find and access their media. The X10 has a 4-inch WVGA 480 x 854 pixel touch display that is scratch resistant. It has an 8.1 megapixel camera that supports geo-tagging, face/smile detection, image stabilization, auto-focus and flash. It runs Bluetooth with A2DP, GPS and Wi-Fi. The X10 runs Android 1.6 Donut. AT&T hasn't if it will be upgraded to a newer version of Android. AT&T is selling it for $150 with a new contract, but it is also available from Sony Style stores for $130 with a new contract.

9 months after it goes through the FCC it's just now coming out!

No wonder why SE can't succeed in the U.S, they don't move their products. 9 months later this thing is already outdated, even by Sony's own standards! I read that HTC will start using Sony's Super LCDs screens, but SE isn't even using their own technology because they take so long for their products to reach market. Plus I saw no mention of wifi n in the article, more outdated specs.

Since SE & AT&T didn't make any mention of 2.2 then we'll have to wait til next week to find out if that's another thing that's outdated.

And of course AT&T's data plans render smartphones useless. Can't listen to podcasts daily cause that will add up, can't watch videos cause that will add up also.
I use my phone pretty heavily and I didn't manage to clear the 2gb data cap. This consists of pandora every day to and from work, as well as use on facebook and sometimes Pandora during work, I take runs at night where I use pandora as well and haven'...

Pointless

I remember thinking this phone was really nice when it was first announced last year. Now, it is utterly pointless. Android 1.6? Really? The early reviews on this phone and its interface were less than stellar. Even if they've improved on those earlier issues, I don't see this phone being a compelling purchase for anyone.
Yep. It is way outdated!

2.2 Froyo Update

Would this be available for update? 1.6 is so behind, makes no sense if this will not be updated to 2.2. Please share your thoughts/info
I was told the X10 "will be upgradeable in the future."

"Upgradeable" does not necessarily = "upgraded."

Neither SE nor AT&T would commit to when, nor what version of Android.

SE's language is very vague and non-committal.
