Apple Shares User Location Data with Partners

Along with the arrival of iOS4 and iTunes 9.2, Apple has updated the privacy policy it uses regarding some user data. Specifically, Apple's new privacy policy notes that it will disclose the "real-time geographic location" of iPhones and iPads. The new clause in the privacy policy notes that once users agree to the new terms and conditions, Apple can share this data with "partners and licensees," though Apple doesn't specify who those entities are. Apple maintains that information that could be used to identify users' is not paired with this location data. The clause in question reads: "Apple and our partners and licensees may collect, use, and share precise location data, including the real-time geographic location of your Apple computer or device. This location data is collected anonymously in a form that does not personally identify you and is used by Apple and our partners and licensees to provide and improve location-based products and services." Users may use the settings tools in iOS4 to opt out of location data sharing for some third-party applications.

This isn't news

Basically all Google services have been doing this for years. I know Google does this with every Android device, and Palm does a similar thing as well.

Users can opt out/block SOME third party applications.

And many others we can't block. Thanks Apple. Users really do have control over their privacy with your products.
