Nokia to Add NFC to More Phones in 2011

Nokia's vice president of markets, Anssi Vanjoki, has announced that starting in 2011 more of the company's devices will have Near Field Communications (NFC) built in. NFC is a short-range radio technology that allows devices such as cell phones to act as mobile payment devices. The NFC chip inside the phone can be programmed to trigger a number of different actions when it comes in contact with another NFC chip or reader. A Nokia spokesperson later confirmed for All About Symbian, "Nokia continues to have a clear commitment to NFC. Starting from 2011 our global Symbian Smartphone portfolio will begin to include NFC. This may, or may not, include all country variants." Vanjoki did say that Nokia will make tools available to developers so they can take advantage of the NFC capabilities. The announcement follows news from earlier this year when Nokia cancelled the 6216 Classic, which was to have NFC on board. Nokia has not said which NFC standards and/or implementations it will add to NFC-equipped phones. A Nokia spokesperson said ""Nokia is evaluating different approaches, but is not disclosing, at the current time, which implentation it will use in its products."

Hopefully this comes out on the N9. For being the flagship, you would hope it would have this. Sounds like a lot easier way to pay for things.
