Sprint Evaluating LTE

Sprnt recently indicated at a public event that it is evaluating future technological choices for its core CDMA network. Mathew Oommen, Sprint's VP of device and technology development, said, "We want to future proof our network. We want to leverage all the assets we have in such a way that offers us the lowest cost per bit." Sprint said that it "open" to LTE. Sprint's WiMax partner, Clearwire, has recently said that it will standardize on the best technology, and can switch to LTE if it needs to. "There's nothing that prevents us from... moving to LTE," said Kevin Packingham, senior VP of product and technology development at Sprint, speaking at the LTE event. "We're doing a technology evaluation and making a decision on our core network and how we want to evolve that going forward." Sprint has submitted a request for proposal (RFP) from many of the world's wireless networking technology companies in order for it to evolve its CDMA network. If it were to switch from CDMA to LTE, that would make it the fourth major U.S. carrier to choose the new standard. Sprint hasn't made up its mind.

Google Adding Data Safety Info to Android App Listings

Google this week announced new requirements for Android apps listed in the Google Play store to clearly disclose what user data the app collects, how it's used, how it's shared, how it's protected (such as encryption), and what choices users have in regard to that data. Also required is whether the app meets Google's requirements for family-friendly apps.

Arm Details Next-Gen v9 Processor Core Designs

Arm today announced details of its v9 processor core designs, which scale from smartwatches to laptops and compose what Arm calls its "Total Compute Solution". The suite of designs includes several new Cortex CPU cores, several new Mali GPU (graphics) cores, and a new interconnect design to link the cores that's 15% more efficient than before.

Smart to go with LTE

Sprint would be smart to go forward with LTE allowing for greater roaming and data agreements.

I hit submit before I was done making my point.....

WIMAX is easily upgradable or should I say convertable to LTE with software upgrades/changes. Sprint is way ahead of the curve for tomorrows technology.

The Here and Now...

It's no question, LTE will be the way to go...eventually. But like some others mentioned, Sprint/Clear are smart for taking advantage of delivering 4G to consumers now and getting atleast a 1-2 year jump on the competition.

Verizon is talking about what they will be delivering next year or so...Sprint will be delivering next month. I personally will be jumping on the HTC Evo bandwagon on June 4th. Who's with me???

No one said WiMAX was the future. Many would have hoped it would be. I personally highly support it because:

1) It allows a choice between LTE or WiMAX.

2) Acts as a governor for LTE.

Personally, I don't understand the hate for WiMAX. LTE and...

True. People want it fast, want it now, want it smaller.
Making sure it works correctly, testing, ironing out the bugs need to be done before anyone can think of jumping on an Olympic sized pool with just an inch of water. 😉

ONLY FOR VOICE!!!

This is old news, Sprint has previously said they want to move voice off of CDMA, moving voice to EVDO is one possibility. Moving voice to LTE (not the bands At&t and verizon will use) is another possibility. Wimax will still handle the data. LTE is better optimized for voice.
