Sprint today announced that the forthcoming HTC EVO 4G will be one of the first handsets in the U.S. to support live video chats. The application for the video chats is being provided by Qik, which already offers a live video streaming service for smartphones. Sprint did not say if that feature would incur extra charges on top of the required data plan. It can also handle simultaneous voice and data sessions in 4G markets, and can stream HD video content over the wireless network. According to Sprint, it will be the first mobile product capable of watching YouTube videos in "high quality." The EVO 4G will require a $70/mo Everything Unlimited plan. WiMax 4G access will incur an additional $10 per month, and is mandatory for certain 4G devices, no matter if there is WiMax coverage or not. Customers can also choose to make the EVO 4G hotspot capable for up to eight devices for an additional $30 per month. It will be available on June 4 for $199.

maybe

maybe if they could find a way to disable the 4G radio in the phone when you dont have the premium fee, then we'll have choice... hopefully XD
(this is if it is true that the $10 premium charge is correct)
You can disable the 4G, you will still be paying the extra $10 no matter what.

Expensive plans!!!!!

Holy cow....$10 extra for 4G and extra $29.99 for mobile hotspot??? are they nuts??

I thought they would offer it for free like VZW Palm Pre.
How do you know this?
...
Fist off, verizon doesnt offer a 4g hotspot 🤣 and second 79.99 a month is way cheaper than any verizon plan with comparable features.
...
That is why it is free.

It is also 3g and capped. the evo's is 4g and unlimited
...
I wouldn't call that thinking at all. Verizon is trying to dump the Pre Plus. You don't see Big
Red offering that free feature on any of their other handsets do you? Then why would Sprint give it away on their flagship device?
Sprint
$69.99 (unlit everything cell2cell)
$10 for 4G
$30 for mobile hotspot for 8 devices (!!!)
=$109.99

Verizon
$69.99 unlit talk
$30 for smartphone data 3G
$20 for unlit text
$30 for 5GB of tethering (free on the Pre ONLY)
=$119.99 for...

People can't do math

I love all the people that complain about Sprint pricing. So if you want to spend more money go ahead and I could care less about all the people that are not in area that has 4G.. Guess what, When LTE comes out it will not be everywhere either. So I don’t want to hear about it.

Sprint - $79 = $69-450min unlimited text, unlimited WEB with NO CAP- Free Music, TV and Navigation. Unlimited ANY mobile to mobile calls -$10 4g service
--------------------------------------------- ---------------------------
ATT - $108 = $39-450min - $20 unlimited text - $30 unlimited WEB - $9 early nights&weekends - $10 Navigation – NO TV, Music or or Mobile to Mobile

Voice & Data while on 4G - bye bye AT&T

Guess they'll have to stop claiming only their network can do it! 😁
LOL where is blue coyote!
...
They'll just say "We don't charge you an extra $10.00 for the privilege"

🤣

Besides, they don't say that because T-Mobile already supports voice + data.

AT&T never stated that only they could do it, just that Verizon couldn't, which they cannot. T-Mobile has been able to do it since it launched 3G.

Thanks for dropping the ball, Verizon.

Idiots. The Saygus Vphone was announced way back in November and could have been the first American handset with Video Chat. I just don't understand. I have been hyping the Supersonic ever since I heard about it, but I can't jump ship at this time. Grrrrrrrrrrrr...
verizons current network would not be able to support live video chat now anyway, it would be like watching a view master, choppy like chop liver ...lol

$10 removed data cap... on 3G as well as 4G.

http://www.engadget.com/2010/05/12/sprint-selling-ht ... »

Update: According to Phone Scoop, that $10 premium add-on has the benefit of no data cap for either WiMAX or 3G connections. Since we're on the subject of updates, have you seen our bevy of new EVO 4G videos yet?

I'd pay for no data cap on 3G... and wait for 4G to hit where I live.
The talk of the cap is confusing things. There is no cap on 3G phone usage with Sprint now. The cap is with a connection card. They clearly need to refine the message, or announce that everyone with unlimited 3G on the phone now is about to have a cap...

HTC EVO 4G Debuts June 4!

What you need to know:

The critics agree that HTC EVO 4G is this summer’s must-have wireless experience as it continues to win their accolades and endorsements. CNET, LAPTOP and eWeek gave HTC EVO 4G awards for Best of Show when it was announced at CTIA this spring.

Why you need to know it:

Although it won’t be available for 3 more weeks, Hesse’s announcement was m...

I am glad to see this in my time. Now we get to know what mobile video chat is like and not just Japan, China, and all of those high-technology developed countries. I got something to tell my grandkinds now... ☹️ 😢 ...excuse me...
Video chat is a bad idea. For people like me who have more than 1 girlfriend is not a good thing you know....
