Sharp Demos 3D Displays for Phones

Sharp recently showed off new display technology that has the potential to bring 3D to mobile phones. The displays work without the need for 3D glasses, but there are a few drawbacks. Right now, the display is limited to a three-inch touch screen, and it must be held exactly one foot from the user's eyes to get the 3D effect. Typically, 3D content requires glasses because it presents two different images to the eyes. The glasses ensure that each eye sees only the image intended for it. The Sharp display technology works in the same way, but requires a fixed distance between the display and the year's eyes to make it work. Sharp also made breakthroughs in how bright the display is, doubling its brightness compared to past 3D displays, and was able to craft the displays so that they'll show 3D images both in portrait and landscape orientations. Sharp said that it expects to begin mass production of 3D displays some time in the next six months.

Great, now I can see Avatar the way it was meant to be seen....

...on a three inch screen, but in full 3-D and with 8.1 Dolby Digital surround sound in the earphones.

🙄

Have the engineering geeks gotten their jollies out of their systems yet by killing the film industry? No? Is the bloodlust going to end anytime soon?

What next????

Incredible what an industry is doing to gain more revenue.
Remember the days when a cellphone made and received calls??
What next? A toilet paper app so when you are at the gas station and they have no toilet paper the phone dispenses it out from a slot at the bottom?
3D displays? Good for those that have porn apps? 🙄

WEAK/VERY STUPID OF SHARP

They made a mistake with this one, first off, hold the phone 1ft away just for it to work?! second off, why get rid of the glasses when that's trending right now?! it would make the phone a hotter comodity(spell check) and the glasses would be considered an accessory. Ppl would make a huge deal out of it with the glasses... especially if they looked like the new age 3D glasses, look at all the stores who model their frames off of 3D shades ;)
