Today the Wall Street Journal reports that Apple will debut a new version of the iPhone by summer. The WSJ also notes that Verizon is working on a version of the iPhone that will be compatible with Verizon's network. No new features were disclosed, and the WSJ cited sources "familiar" with Apple's plans. No official comments were provided by Apple.

Verizon doesn't have the backhaul capacity for a real smartphone

That people actually use data on. Most of their EVDO coverage came from their Alltel purchase, but they have less available bandwidth per customer than AT&T.
Most of their EVDO coverage in the south came from alltel, not the coverage up north or in major cities.

I have been to network meetings for BOTH carriers within the last 60 days and AT&T is frankly still in catch-up mode.

You have nothing to prove that statement.

Yeah, because Android phones totally don't to the same that iPhones can do and more. 🙄
Do you just make stuff up and hope people believe you?

Somebody kill me please

I hope I die before the day an Iphone is available for big red. I am so sick of hearing...

"Hey when are you guys gettin' da iphone?"

WHO CARES?

The Iphone is old news. It's been outdone. WEB OS? ANDROID? Heard of them?

And yes, I have seen the clever commercials on the tv box. Yes, I know the Iphone is shiny. Yes, I know my bra Mikey has one. But none of that impresses me.

The general public is so brainwashed by these Apple ads. People could say...

"Ya man, I'm just gonna wait for da Iphone and it's sweet apps"

and I could say "oh ya, how 'bout dis phone dawg... it does everything the iphone does and more. It'll even make you breakfast, literally."

And then they'd say "ya but does it sync with itune...

Ah, the good old' days. Cheers! 😁
Funny... but aren't you part of the general public? 👀
iPhone OS like Android and like WebOS are not static, there are improvements and upgrades. And to be honest this is a good for all platforms.
Hahahaha...this post had me in stitches. 🤣

In either case, yeah, I feel the same way. I was speaking with a customer who said that she'd cancel all of her lines of service if I didn't tell her which Verizon Wireless phone was most similar to th...

iphone for verizon???

really, do people really want an iphone on verizon cdma networks?? wasnt the "droid" supposed to be their flagship phone???? perhaps they are having the same reaction i had after seeing wirefly's droid and tmo's hd2 comparison. tmobile is really headed in the right direction, keep up the good work.
What innovation has the iPhone brought to the market in the last year or two? Better compass support? Copy/Paste? Better obfuscation of their app approval process?

While Google has it's problems, Apple has shaking in their boots at the amount of ma...

T-Mobile deserves to be #1

Time after time, T-Mobile has demonstrated that they have what it takes to shake the competition. With true 3G and excellent clear/static free calls and large coverage. Pay attention to that last part verizon...speaking as a former sub. I'm proud to say I have a kick azz rooted G1 and Android offers way more thrills right out of the box than Apple. Sure they lack some things that Apple can swing right now. I'm sorry...how long has Android been around and how popular is it now? Hmmmm 😉

p.s - who else offers great plans with everything for a low price...not sprint. I have 2 lines with unlimited everything and my bill is ALWAYS $151/month. minutes, data, texts etc
I concur, and they will be. That is why I think if apple was smart, they could make T-MO #1 easily with this. Verizon has been #1 for quite some time now and need's to give up thier crown. Your right about the prices, That is what would make them #1. ...

And T-Mo supports it!

T-Mobile has been supporting the F'ing iPhone since the first unlock and have the best customer support when you call the iPhone in for configuration cuz of the simmular networks! Now apple is going to dump on them and go with Big Red! Screw you Apple! Now I am Glad I bought the all mighty HD2 instead of waiting for the iPhone to hit T-Mo (which I won't buy now)!
without 3G. yay. Top of the line phone on bottom of the line speeds. Gee sign me up.

What happened to T-Mobile?

Screw Verizon and all thier hatting commercials towards at&t w/ the iPhone in paticular! What happened to the well deserving and quickly advent T-mobile? I guess with the Hd2 (I own) T-MO doesn't need the iPhone. Verizon is gonna need the iPhone more just to stay in the race with thier old ass network! T-Mo is about to open a can of you know what w/ thier already fastest 3G network boasting hspda speeds upwords of 7-20 mps! Go T-Mobile!
#1 and #2 aren't real worried about #4... The Big Dogs are fighting and the Chihuahua is better barking in the corner.

That "old ass network" is far more efficient in how it operates compared to a GSM network. And wow...imagine that: A company upgrading something so it becomes faster than what's already available. Will we be talking about T-Mobile's "old ass network" ...

I have had every iphone...

I was with AT&T for about six years and I have had all three iphones and every one of them had far less signal than any other phone on the AT&T network and call quality was a joke. I live in Alabama and AT&T does not have 3G were I live, so I finally left them a few weeks ago for Verizon and the HTC Droid, I could not be any more pleased. Great call quality and fast 3G speeds, I should have made the move years ago and I would not have another crappy iphone any network. Well I might change my mind but it would have to make some really BIG improvements.
really.... 😕

AppleInsider: Verizon iPhone unlikely

Touch pad on the back? Although I have seen that idea somewhere else I think, sounds cool as hell.

iDONT WANT IT

I don't really want one, but I am sure the fact that it is coming to Verizon will attract a lot of new customers and I will sell a ton of these. The only thing At&t has going for it now is the fact that they will have a new one first. People don't like to wait.
I'm glad that they are FINALLY going elsewhere.

Now we can see if the poor performance truely is AT&T or if it's the actual phone.

The sad part is... they are finally going to Verizon now that Apple is losing mind-share. I have an iPhone and wi...

Way to go iPhone!

Release on two more networks, and you've caught the Android phones as far as being on ALL networks.
pretty much sums it up.
the iPhone can outsell all Android handsets combined despite having a fraction of the marketing budget and being on only 1 provider. 🤣

Now if Android could actually stick with one OS version they'd be gold.

Love the iPhone, HATE Verizon

It's not the network I hate really, they do a great job with coverage. And it's not really the devices, most Verizon phones have a solid feel and a somewhat (boring) consistant look.

What I hate about Verizon is the attitute. The "holier than thou" attitute it's commercials portray. The "I don't need you" attitute that its sales people have.

I remember when my company, T-Mobile, came out with the 8520, proudly talking about its optical trackpad. I showed a couple of the sales reps from verizon the phone and they trashed it. Every one of them own one now! wtf?

Maybe that is one of the reasons people hate the iPhone, I don't know. I mean, those of us who own them kind of look down at those who don't. It's hard to believe someone cou...

Here's who's going to make the CDMA iPhone

http://www.pegatroncorp.com/company/whoWeAre.php »
They're going to manufacture the CDMA version while the company that's had the most experience will manufacture the next iPhone for ATT. 😳

Different companies are said to be developing the new iPhones. Hon Hai Precision Industry Co., the company that produced the previous iPhones, is reportedly manufacturing the one that will debut this summer, while Pegatron is believed to be responsible for the iPhone with CDMA capability.

No offense Phone Scoop, but this person's track record is beyond sketchy, and given that they can't seem to name any actual hardware specifics, I label this as Grade A. BS.

Misleading

Never once does this article say Verizon will be getting it, Instead it says a CDMA version will be released
That is true- it seems ridiculous to think Verizon is any more likely to get it over any other provider. Though chances are if Apple was to gun for market share, they'd release it on Verizon.
