FCC Suggests Free Wireless Broadband

At the Digital Inclusion Summit, the FCC released a statement supporting free wireless broadband for some Americans in a bid to increase affordable broadband service nationwide. The commission did not specify which Americans would qualify for such a service and how the plan would be carried out, but the FCC did suggest using "spectrum for a free or a very low cost wireless broadband service." The Digital Inclusion Summit aims to connect one-third of Americans without broadband Internet access at home. As part of the FCC's statement, the commission recommended a Digital Literacy Corps of volunteers who would teach users how to access the free or low-cost service.

because high speed broadband is a right?

Wow are we going to start hearing how high speed internet is a right now? What if they don't have computers? Do we all have a basic right to computation devices? Our rights cover the equal opportunity for us to pursue these services, not the *guarantee* of having them.

Our entitlement society and politicians are going to kill our economy. It's like those goofballs that ran for student body president on the joke of a promise of free pizza in the cafeteria to get elected. Same idiocy is being used to get elected in Washington.

FREE INTERNET FOR EVERYBODY! The sheep cry out, "Yaaaaaaay! And more recess too!"

Your logic is illogical. Why not give just the underprivileged free HSI at least. What happens when you're poor and can't afford the internet but you need to find a job but can't make it to the library or other free facility, not to mention your broke...

that's what it's called. you can't afford it...dont buy it. I made sure i have a job where i make good enough money so i can afford to pay for internet so my wife can go to college online (which we pay for ourselves w/out government help). there are a lot of things that i'd like to have but cannot afford it.

why does the government think that everyone deserves to have broadband internet? we only deserve what we work to achieve. nothing more.
