Today a software update became available for the HTC Nexus One Google Phone that installs a number of new features. The most significant new feature includes multitouch, which gives users the ability to perform pinch-to-zoom in applications such as the browser, picture gallery and Google Maps. Google Maps receives a significant update as well to version 3.4. This new version lets users synch starred items between desktop and mobile versions of Maps, view Maps search history, and a new night mode that changes the screen for easier viewing at night. Owners of the Nexus One will receive a link to update their software.

Why not the Droid, G1, MyTouch, Hero, or Eris?

So all you people who blew your money on the phones listed above, how's it feel to have your fancy phone treated as a second-class citizen on a second-class platform?

This is great- now new applications can take advantage of things like chording and multiple keyboard presses. Maybe someday your iPhone-killing Droid will too! 🤣

Does ANYONE have any confidence in this platform? If so what are you on?
I have a multi touch browser on my droid already. xscope browser and Dolphin browser both support it. 2.0 has multi touch enabled, it just didn't get enabled on the default software until today.

You'll see an update for it for other phones I am...

Ok, troll. Its hardly as if the other devices are being treated like second-class citizens. They still do every single thing they did before. Pinch to zoom is frankly more cumbersome to implement than double-tapping the screen to zoom. One-handed ...

Actually, I rescind my previous post, on the grounds that I DON'T CARE!

And of the Droid?

I really hope this isn't a sign that the Motorola Droid is going to be neglected now. It's hardly three months old and obviously came around before the N1. The Milestone has the feature so it's obviously available. WTF Google!? 🤨
What about the MyTouch or Hero owners who are stuck with Android 1.6/5 ? The Droid is old news like every other flavor of the month Android handset.

The Nexus One will be forgotten in hrm.... 3 weeks? 4 weeks? When is Sony Ericsson entering the f...

It's not google. Remember, updates for non google phones are developed by the phone maker (motorola) and then approved by the carrier (verizon)

I wouldn't be suprised if when we got 2,1 it would have mutli-touch enabled (since that is a pretty e...

Congratulations to Google! ! !

Congratulations to Google for giving the people what they want! Multi-touch!

Now what about all other present AND future Android smartphones beyond just the Nexus One.

Well one thing that can definetly be said is Google was a whole lot faster giving people what they wanted with multi-touch than Apple was with giving people copy/paste.

we get multi touch... why is that man still allowed to speak without having his speeches written for him?

Yeah, but Apple gave everyone Copy and Paste, and actually did a good job with it.
