T-Mobile Confirms 3G Issues for Google Nexus One

T-Mobile has via its forums recognized that the Google Nexus One device is experiencing issues connecting to its 3G network. T-Mobile said, "Google and T-Mobile are investigating this issue and hope to have more information for you soon. We understand your concern and appreciate your patience." Users have reported no 3G connections at all, or devices that fluctuate between EDGE and 3G. T-Mobile is asking users to send in reports that include location information about where they experienced trouble as well as whether or not other 3G-equipped devices work in the same area.

Apparently, there's been a lot of finger pointing in the support area. HTC sends you to Tmobile, Tmobile sends you to Google, and Google tells you to send them an email and they'll get back to you in 2 days.

Just because a phone can't get to 3g doesn't make it a paperweight (though it is really annoying).
If it is a software update, expect a fix really soon. If it is a hardware issue, submit for a warranty exchange.

You're right, its totally tmobiles fault that googles phone will stay connected to 3g. Maybe you should go somewhere else and pay twice as much for a droid or iphone 🙄

So after ranting about Tmobile not being able to support the Nexus One's 3g and actually playing with my phone I have come to the conclusion that the web is indeed 3g speed. Well it seems to work as fast at the mytouch and I could live with that. Overall I am pleased and happy with my purchase. 😁 🤤 🤤

While i acknowledge that these problems aren't T-mobile's fault, I do agree that a phone like this would be better utilized on a network with a larger 3G area..like Sprint and Verizon.

It's a new phone...stuff like this happens with everything. A couple software updates and (hopefully) this'll be fixed. It's (probably) no big deal.
I'm not a fanboy...I have an iPhone and I love it. Though I understand those who do not(in poor AT&T 3G areas I live in Dayton, OH and our AT&T 3G coverage here is amazing).

or its a hardware issue and they have to take back the devices sold as there may be a defect? we dont know what the real reason is on the 3G not working.

This isn't the first good phone that has had issues and it won't be the last. I'm sure either firmware upgrades or exchanges will be made, depending.
Hopefully this is just something that can be fixed by a firmware/software upgrade, maybe the phone was rushed to the market too soon. I still think this was a great move by htc and google.

Yeah.. I can't speak for Tmobile phones, but my Droid, and other Android/HTC phones I know of that my friends have got great signal.

Support Problems Good Reason to Avoid Nexus One
As I've said, the Nexus One could be a major misstep for Google and, so far, unhappy customers are proving me right. Sadly, quality telephone support isn't something Google can roll out overnight, which is another good reason for would-be customers to wait until Google has a better handle on support issues before purchasing a Nexus One.

However, HTC is branding the handset under someone else (like say, Audiovox or UTStarcom) , but it still says HTC on the phone... who do I get support from? HTC? No, they're telling me to go to the carrier. The carrier? No, they're telling me to go to Google. Google? Do they even HAVE suppport lines?

Sounds about right for Tmobile. I used to work for Tmobile and their network is always having issues. I have seen Known network issues like unable to access the web last 6 months in some places. Rediculous.
I've heard that from other (technical) employees of TMO. I'd said your network seems pretty reliable and their reply was it's crap, stuff is always braking.

I am sure they will, but I think that is the only difference between Tmobile and carriers like VZ and ATT (I am not bashing) but the amount of hours that are put into testing is the reason why these two companies take so long to come out with phones. (or they use to) The downside to that is that Tmobile has the hottest phones on the market usually before anyone else.
Hottest phones? Meh...they've got like two. And one it turns out...isn't even supported 100%. Now they know the general idea of what AT&T's dealing with for the iphone.
Testing phones doesn't necessarily mean anything. I've been using an unlocked/unbranded Nokia N95-3 for over 2yrs and it works just fine.

I am not surprised that there are issues. Normally, a new device is thoroughly tested on the network it is going to, I suspect that the testing was not detailed enough because it is an unlocked phone.
That said, I am sure that there is going to be a series of patches in the next 30-60 days for many issues with the Nexus One before Google gets it right.
