Verizon Wireless plans to eliminate many of the management positions, including finance, marketing and legal, at the former Alltel's headquarters in Little Rock. The positions became redundant with Verizon's purchase of Alltel in 2008. Verizon didn't say exactly how many positions were being eliminated, but said the affected employees are welcome to apply for other jobs in the Little Rock facility, including call center positions.

lol--It's an insult.
Those guys knew their days were numbered when they sold Alltel to Goldman Sachs. Let's hope they were not sitting on their behinds twiddling their thumbs.

What will they do next?

I'm curious what the former management of the 5th largest wireless company will do after they successfully sold the company off.
Severence packages are generally very nice if a company is laying you off. Especially if you've been there for a while. Verizon may support them for a year or so.

Well, that's nice...

Held a position of stature with Alltel? Well, you're fired but you can apply for a call center position!

Wow.
