NTT DoCoMo to Kill Off 2G Sooner Than Planned

NTT DoCoMo executives recently revealed that the company plans to shut off its 2G network entirely by March 2011. DoCoMo had originally planned to cease offering 2G by December 2012. This moves up the time by one year and nine months. Ryuji Yamada, president and CEO of NTT DoCoMo, says by March 2011, the vast majority of its customers will have moved to 3G devices, and it also will be offering Long Term Evolution-based equipment and services starting by December 2010.
