MediaFLO Expands TV Service Beyond Network Operators

Today Qualcomm's MediaFLO division announced the new FLO TV Personal Television device, a stand-alone piece of hardware that can be used to watch live TV. The device, which is manufactured by HTC, has a 3.5-inch QVGA touch display, with built-in stereo speakers, 3.5mm headset jack, built-in adjustable stand and a rechargeable battery that provides five hours of viewing time. The FLO TV Personal Television costs $250 and is available from Amazon and Best Buy starting today. RadioShack will be selling it by the end of the year. It comes with six months of complimentary service, after which users will need to subscribe to a monthly plan. It is launching with 10 TV channels, and is available in many of the nation's top markets. Previously, MediaFLO relied on network operator partners AT&T and Verizon Wireless to distribute FLO-capable devices and service plans. MediaFLO president Bill Stone told Phone Scoop that more phone-based devices are on the way.

WoW HTC actually included a real 3.5mm headphone jack, congratulations to HTC! ! !

It would be nice if laptops had MediaFLO built-in, or an ATSC digital tuner.

Wow! History repeating itself...

Remember the Sony Watchmans'? I owned one. It only picked up local channels. It had this big ass antenna that took a person's eye out. But this brings back memories. I got kicked out of class for watching a show.
