Google recently announced that it has acquired Gizmo5, a small company that provides VoIP-based calling services to phones and computers. Google stated that Gizmo5's engineers will be folded into its Google Voice team. Google Voice is an internet-based call forwarding service that allows people to use one central number and have it ring the phone of their choice. Google did not say what features or technology it will cull from Gizmo5, but adding VoIP calling to its Google Voice product is a strong possibility. Existing Gizmo5 customers will be able to continue using their service, but no new users will be allowed to sign up right now. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
