Telecom Companies Intro SMS and Voice-Over-LTE Solution

Today a number of global telecom companies, including AT&T, Verizon, Vodafone, Alcatel-Lucent, Ericsson, Nokia Siemens Networks, Nokia, Samsung, and Sony Ericsson, introduced a new standards based solution for voice and SMS services over Long Term Evolution. The One Voice initiative is a 3GPP-compliant technical standard that uses IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) technology to allow for voice and SMS traffic to transit LTE wireless networks. The companies involved believe this solution permits for the widest compatibility for wireless network operators, telecom equipment makers, and handset makers. It also ensures world-wide roaming over LTE networks. This new specification competes with two other proposed specs, including the one introduced by VoLGA (Voice over LTE via Generic Acces) Forum and the 3GPP's own Circuit Switched Fallback (CSFB). CSFB would allow devices to revert to GSM or UMTS for incoming and outgoing voice calls.
