Today Google announced Google Maps Navigation (Beta) for Android 2.0 devices. The new Google Maps Navigation application will offer 3D maps that users can layer with wikipedia information or transit data. The application will also provide voice-based, turn-by-turn directions. The application offers powerful new ways to search for directions and map routes, which includes: access to the latest maps and business address data; simplified search by business or place name (no address required); voice-based search; real-time traffic information; satellite and street-view; and access to pints of interest along any given route. The application will initially be available on the Motorola Droid. Google did not say if or when the application would be available to other platforms or other devices.
