AT&T has filed a lawsuit against a number of companies that manufacturer liquid crystal displays and alleges that the companies named have consorted to raise and fix the prices for displays used in electronics such as mobile phones. The companies sued by AT&T include LG, Samsung, Sharp, Chunghwa and AU Optronics. AT&T says it has purchased some 300 million mobile phones from the companies involved at inflated prices due to the scheme. The lawsuit was filed in San Francisco.

Just wondering........

.......is this anything like charging $2.99 for a 20 second piece of song (ring tone) when you can buy the entire song for .99?
No, that's just a high price. This would be if there were multiple ringtone stores, and they all agreed to keep thier prices at $2.99.

try to crack/break your pdaphone screen.
and it will cost you over 150$ to replace LCD! you tell me is that price fixing or not. over 150$ just to replace a 2.8" LCD screen? you can get a 19" LCD monitor for 150buk!

If that isn't the pot calling the kettle black...

at&t knows good and dang well it does the same crap with the other carriers yet it chases other people down for the same thing. 🤣
That's not all together true. Not to say that it couldn't happen or isn't planned, but a lot of the time, one company will do something and the others will follow suit just because they have to. So, for example, T-Mobile launched their unlimited plan ...

Uhhh...is this a smart thing?

Okay, I am sure everyone will have something to say about AT&T's service/coverage/customer care. Let's assume we've heard it all (multiple times) and skip that part.

How smart is it to sue the folks who manufacture phones that you use on your network? I am not a pro at business relations...but is this a good thing?
Well, they're not exclusive phones that AT&T provides. LG phones suck, but they're inexpensive, and Samsung phones are ok. Other than that, I don't see AT&T taking much of a loss from not carrying any of the handsets anymore if it comes down to it.

It's really not all that relevant that two of the sued companies also make phones. This is about the pricing of LCDs, which are separate from the phone manufacturing branch of the company.

While I don't know if this is the case, it's entirely poss...
