Google has re-tooled the way its local search feature behaves on mobile phones. One of the key features is the ability to search for and save places on Google Maps using a desktop PC, and then access those saved locations from a mobile phone at a later time. Using the new tools, it is easy to sort between local search options and find nearby places without the need to type in queries. The starred places will also provide information in a way that's optimized for mobile devices, showing details such as phone numbers and hours open. The new version of Google local search for both Maps and mobile is free to use.
