Updated: Corrected "broad deployment" language according to T-Mobile.
T-Mobile USA today revealed that it has started deploying HSPA+ technology on a limited basis in Philadelphia, with plans for "broad deployment" by mid-2010. HSPA+ offers theoretical peak data rates of 21 Mbps. T-Mobile is also deploying HSPA 7.2 - which offers data rates up to 7.2 Mbps - in some cities in the coming months as an interim step. AT&T is also deploying HSPA 7.2, with plans to upgrade 90 percent of its 3G network to the technology by the end of 2011. AT&T plans to skip HSPA+ in favor of LTE technology. T-Mobile confirmed that they also plan to deploy LTE in the future, although they have not announced a timeline as of yet.
