Apple Files Its Answers to the FCC Over Google Voice

Today Apple provided its answers to the FCC over the removal of the Google Voice application from the iPhone Apps Store. Apple notes, "Apple alone makes the final decisions to approve or not approve iPhone applications." Apple also said that the application wasn't removed, rather, it was pulled back into the approval process so Apple could study the application further to see how it is interacting with the native telephony features of the iPhone. Apple stated, "Google is of course free to provide Google Voice on the iPhone as a web application through Apple’s Safari browser, just as they do for desktop PCs."

Question 1. Why did Apple reject the Google Voice application for iPhone and remove related third-party applications from its App Store? In addition to Google Voice, which related third-party applications were removed or have been rejected? Please provide the specific name of each application and the contact information for the developer.

What I think it's because this Google app is better than anything that has Apple & also because its FREE & non-restrictive.

Everyone is pissed cause Apple doesn't want to allow another company's user interface on their device, that uses their software, to sell in their store.
Apple owns the app store. The hardware, and the internal software. It's theirs. They spent a sh*t ton of time developing it. And now, we are going to want to get an "apple" phone, to run a "google" application?
Forget the childish argument of "I bought it, I should get to do what I want with it." How about this argument: Why the F would you buy an "apple" device, and run "google" software on it? Does anyone else see this as wasting good money? Use the google app on a phone that needs a phone/contact update. Honestly, the iPhone users, real user...

According to Apple's response, users can access Google Voice through the Iphone's browser. How do you Iphone users feel about that? This is the only way I can access Google Voice on my Curve (via the browser).

i get it now, everytime u want to use google voice, you have to use browser (internet) to download and load the application. takes 30 seconds everytime you want to use it? so people just give up on google voice...

microsoft can block itune, firefox, and opera from running on windows 7 now! just give the same BS like apple did! "we blocked these programs so we can do more test and make sure it' compatible with windows 7"
