Symbian^4 to Represent New Reality, Break with S60's Past

Symbian Foundation representative David Wood recently spelled out some changes planned for future versions of the Symbian mobile platform. Currently, S60 uses Avkon APIs to derive a lot of its user interface elements. Starting with Symbian^4, it will begin using the Qt user interface tools instead. This means that devices based on versions of Symbian^4 and up will not be compatible with current S60 apps. Developers will have to redesign and/port their applications to the newer base Symbian code in order to work on Symbian handsets. Symbian^4 is not expected to be hardened until the second half of 2010, and most likely won't appear on devices until well into 2011. S60 itself will be phased out over time.

Sad

There are a lot of S60 apps that most likely won't be redeveloped. It's going to be a shame to lose them all.
yes, you're right, sad but true 😢 ☹️
