T-Mobile and RIM Announce the BlackBerry 8520

Today T-Mobile and Research In Motion announced that the BlackBerry 8520 will land in T-Mobile and Wal-Mart stores on August 5. The most notable feature of the 8520 is that it trades the long-used trackball for an optical trackpad for on-screen navigation. According to RIM, the 8520 is also the first BlackBerry to have its own dedicated media keys. It has quad-band GSM/EDGE, Wi-Fi, and stereo Bluetooth radios on board. Other features of the 8520 include a full QWERTY keyboard, 2 megapixel camera with video capture, a 3.5mm headset jack, and support for microSD cards up to 16GB. The 8520 will cost $130 with new agreement and qualifying data plan.

2MP camera!?!?

You're telling me that a device like the long anticipated 8520 doesn't come with anything better than a cheap 2MP camera? What about 3G? This is why I would rather just buy the phones outside of the network, I cant see myself paying top dollar for old technology

how was the 8520 long anticipated? this is an entry level blackberry for t-mobile's lineup, replacing the old blackberry 8320. This is going to be sold by walmart for only $48 pretty soon, supposed to be a cheaper option in order to attract mor...

3G?

I could have sworn that I have read on several forums that this was going to be the first Blackberry to support AWS 1700 for 3G. That sucks if there is no 3G on this device. T-Mobile needs to lean on RIM a little more...

The Blackberry flip should have had 3G too.

Its not RIM's fault. It is T-Mobile's fault for having Edge Data in all the spots they should be supporting 3G. They have 3G data connect in like 3 cities. 🤣 🤣 🤣

the 8520 is an entry level device in the blackberry lineup which replaces the old 8320 curve. the first blackberry with t-mobile 3g is still on its way, codenamed 'driftwood', this is a different device.

Opticle track pad - not ground breaking - already in Omnia

"Oooooh, Ahhhh" the crwod is in awe of the BBerry's new opticle track pad. Not me. Samsung Omnia with Windows Mobile had it for a year already. Old technology. Again RIM is playing catch-up.
