RIM to Hand Visto Another $267.5 Million

Research In Motion has agreed to pay Visto a settlement in the amount of $267.5 million to put to bed another patent dispute between the two companies regarding mobile email technology. RIM has already paid Visto $612.5 million to resolve a previous patent spat. This new settlement gives RIM permanent access to some of Visto's patents as well as ownership of some of Visto's intellectual property. The settlement is expected to close by next week. Visto recently acquired Good Technology -- a mobile email provider -- from Motorola.
