Google recently unveiled a new application that will bring its orkut social networking service to most phones that can run Java (such as BlackBerries and S60). Beyond simply providing a mobile web-based experience to Java-capable phones, the new application gives orkut users the ability to upload photos directly to their orkut photo album, actively share or SMS photos to contacts, call or SMS orkut contacts from within the orkut application, and also view scraps, albums and messages from friends when offline. The application, which is in beta, is a free download.
