Today the LiMo Foundation announced the completion of the LiMo Mobile Platform R2 specifications. LiMo says this new spec will be the "heart" of LiMo-based handsets that reach the market in the fourth quarter of this year. The biggest addition to this new version of the specification is support for BONDI. BONDI is a framework for developers that will let them create apps and services that will work on all LiMo R2 devices. Other new features in the R2 platform include support for location-based services, multimedia, personal information management and security applications. The LiMo Foundation will publish APIs for the R2 spec to its web site in the fall, which the Foundation expects will be used in devices to hit the market by the end of 2009.
