Nokia Launches Ovi Store

On Monday, Nokia launched its online software and content store, which it is pitting head-to-head against other mobile stores such as the iPhone Apps Store, the Android Market, and the BlackBerry Apps World. The initial availability of the launch was limited to just several handsets in the Australian and Singapore markets. On Tuesday, Nokia rolled the store out to an additional 50 million people in eight different countries, including: Australia, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Russia, Singapore, Spain and the United Kingdom. The Ovi Store offers games, applications, music and other content that is compatible with Nokia handsets. Customers in the countries named above can pay for applications and content directly through their mobile network operator. Customers outside of those countries can pay for applications with their credit cards. Nokia said that the store should be available in the U.S. via AT&T later this year.
