Today Nokia announced that it is ceasing any further investments in or developments of its Ovi Share social networking web site for the time being. A Nokia spokesperson said that Ovi Share will be maintained in its current state, and that it will remain open, but Nokia will not add any new features to it. Ovi Share competes directly with other services such as Facebook, Twitter and Flickr that provide similar functionality. Ovi Share, which Nokia acquired as part of Twango in 2007, was first opened to the public in February 2008. Nokia didn't indicate if it plans to cease investments in any of its other Internet-based services, which have become an important part of the company's new structure.
