Cable provider Cox Communications plans to launch and operate wireless service in the U.S. The company indicated that it feels the need to compete with wireless companies and wants the ability to offer bundled services that include wireless. Cox mostly serves the south and southwest regions, and said that it will offer post-paid and pre-paid cellular phone service as well as wireless data service in those areas. It will forge roaming agreements with the other wireless carriers to provide roaming capabilities. Cox also indicated that it hopes to push mobile video services to its customers. The company did not discuss pricing or timeline details, nor did it say what types of phones it expects to offer.
