Samsung today announced "TouchWiz Connected Mobile Applications", a new platform for "rich connected mobile application" widgets that will run on Samsung’s lineup of TouchWiz touch-screen phones. Both developers and end users will be able create new widgets for the platform. Tools for professional developers will be available via the Eclipse IDE. Samsung will offer develeopers the opportunity to sell these third-party applications via a new Samsung Rich Connected Application storefront. Yahoo, Google and AccuWeather.com have already committed to launching widgets for the platform. In addition, Samsung plans to debut a web-based tool that will allow end users to create their own widgets based on user-specified RSS feeds, and possibly other custom content.
