Today Apple announced several changes to the way the iPhone Apps Store will work. It will now support subscriptions and the ability for users to download additional levels of software such as games (as those levels become available). It will also support peer-to-peer gaming and contact sharing via Bluetooth with other iPhones. Apple is also going to allow iPhone developers to access hardware profiles on the iPhone, so they can develop new applications such as FM tuners that will interact with the device itself. Apple also said that it will allow developers to build Google Maps directly into their own applications, and will enable turn-by-turn directions. Apple said that it is finally bringing push notification to iPhone OS. Apple said that it had to re-work how its background processes work to better manage battery life. Apple is adding a new API that will support audio and video streaming to the iPhone, as well as in-game voice support.
