Clearwire recently reported its quarterly earnings and in the report shared some details about its future mobile WiMax roll-outs. By the end of 2009, Clearwire expects to launch in Atlanta, Las Vegas, Chicago, Charlotte, Dallas/Ft. Worth, Honolulu, Philadelphia and Seattle and others. It also has major markets lined up for launch in 2010, including New York, Boston, Washington, D.C., Houston and San Francisco. Clearwire said that it expects to have close to 100 WiMax devices in the market by the end of 2009 to support its networks. Those devices will include modems, PDAs/handhelds, netbooks, and laptops. Clearwire also plans to launch a dual-mode 3G/4G modem that can roam between cellular networks and WiMax networks.

Hit your 5GB limit faster

I like to listen to Pandora and watch news clips while on the road and believe me when I say 5GB is very easy to hit. My only gripe with faster connectivity is that you're still screwed with a data cap. If you can do 5 minutes worth of net surfing in 3 minutes are you gonna sit still for 2 minutes? If all they expect you to do is email and 'simple' web surfing then why the need for more speed?
Well, more speed is great for the business customers as well as regular consumers for doing more stuff. Plus, it will increase capacity which is a great thing.
...
I was under the impression that WiMax wouldn't be capped. So the 5MB cap wouldn't apply.
...
Why are you assuming the wi-max service has a cap on it? It doesn't.
...
Wimax is a completely different network. The reason for the cap on the EVDO and UMTS networks are to protect those using the voice service. If people are going crazy with data, that will hinder the voice networks like crazy. When the 4G comes out, it'...

Yippy Las Vegas is on the list!!!

I hope it'll be better than the 2-4mbps that's in Baltimore. I want REAL broadband!!! And the speeds better be consistent too!!! I don't want it to drop down to loser EDGEspeeds, it's almost 2010 damn it, deliver REAL wireless broadband!!!
Last I checked, EDGE speeds were around 100-300Kbps...

It probably will but they need to make sure that what they are doing will be helpful when it comes to resources. The more resources the more money it costs and this time in this awful economy, it is tough to forecast those trends. Of course, I guess ...

"Clearwire is conducting beta trials of true mobile WiMax network (based on the 802.16e-2005 standard) in Portland and Atlanta. The company plans to add service next in Las Vegas and Grand Rapids, Michigan, and hopes to upgrade its existing pre-WiMax markets next year to cover a total of 60 million to 80 million “points of presence” by the end of 2009, according to Susan Johnston, a Clearwire spokesperson. Sprint’s Xohm network is also based on the 802.16e-2005 standard. There are reasons to believe that these true mobile WiMax services will offer better performance on the go. The Baltimore Sun reported that Sprint had demonstrated how it could smoothly stream a movie to a...
