Symbian Foundation Adds to Its Flock
Twelve new companies, including HP, Qualcomm and MySpace, are joining the Nokia-led Symbian Foundation. Nokia bought Symbian in 2008 and plans to create a new, open-source base for the mobile platform. It has gathered 78 member companies into the Symbian Foundation. Other firms joining today are Atelier, Bank of America, Gemalto, Imagination Technologies, Mobica, Nanoradio, Omron Software, SanDisk, SESCA, SiRF Technology and VirtualLogix. Nokia and its partners hope to create a better competitor to Apple, RIM, and Google's Android platforms.
