Verizon Wireless Offers Location-Based Weather Alerts

Today Verizon Wireless announced a new service that will alert users about inclement or dangerous weather conditions. The technology takes advantage of GPS and location-based information, can see where the subscriber is, and will issue an alert via text messag to the appropriate set of people in a given region if they are threatened by tornadoes, hurricanes, flooding and other natural disasters. The service works by combining data from the National Weather Service with WeatherBug's national sensor network. WeatherBug Protect can be downloaded directly to the handset and requires a $5.99 per month subscription.

Not again Verizon!!

Wow!! Verizon seems to always find a way to rip their customers for more money. You can find the weather the same way by going through any phones browser; or on the iPhone by downloading that same weatherbug app for FREE.
