LiMo Updates Mobile Linux Platform, Verizon Wireless to Deploy LiMo Handset in 2009

Today the LiMo Foundation announced a number of updates to the LiMo Linux platform, with contributions coming from a handful of companies, including Azingo, LG, Purple Labs and Samsung. The new capabilities will bring advanced multimedia features, location-based services, better device management and improved security controls to the platform. THe LiMo Foundation also said that Telefonica SK Telecom have joined the LiMo board of directors and that mobile operators around the world have agreed to deploy LiMo mobile Linux-based handsets. Operators committing to the LiMo Platform include NTT DoCoMo, Orange, SK Telecom, Telefónica, Verizon Wireless and Vodafone. These carriers have said that they will launch LiMo-based phones in 2009.
