The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Microsoft plans to shore up its mobile phone offerings, including the introduction of a new storefront through which Windows Mobile users can find and download software. The Journal cites people familiar with Microsoft's plans, and says that the store will be announced during Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. The store would help the Windows Mobile platform better compete with the iPhone and Android, both of which have dedicated stores. According to statements made by Microsoft, the software made available to Windows Mobile will focus on multimedia features, such as music and photos. The Journal also reports that Microsoft is going to announce Windows Mobile 6.5 "in the coming weeks."
